I am feeling sad today, for all womenkind.
For christmas I recieved a laptop. It's compact, trendy, small and sexy. The start of uni is coming up and I'm going to have to carry that laptop around campus. So, I decided to search for a laptop bag (tote, if you will) that I can haul it around in. Now, obviously, I don't want a LAPTOP bag that screams "hey, look at me, I have a big heavy laptop and you should STEAL IT!" with massive 'dell' logos all over it. I want a trendy, handbag type bag that I can possibly even use without the laptop, as a handbag. Apparently, Australia is so far into the boondocks, and so behind the times that it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to buy a trendy, pink or even COLOURED laptop bag in anything other than nylon, certainly in the stores, and online is even worse.
I found the perfect bag, a Komen pink suede laptop tote, which donates 10% of the sale price to breast cancer research, but only on American sites. And apparently America is so selfish and self-centered that NO ONE ships internationally.
So, stylish women in Australia are forced to carry crappy, nylon bags or black leather man-bags if they need to lug around their laptop. Frankly it makes me ashamed to live here. I've never thought Australian fashion was particularly behind - I always thought we just had 'different' stuff. But it's time that Australian designers and retailers woke up to the fact that women are tech-savvy too, and some of those tech-savvy women want bags, phones, laptops and cameras in girlish pink, silver or a range of other, non-black, grey and charcoal colours.
Ok, I am now getting off my soapbox. Continue as you were :D
